Paralympic athlete Jernej Slivnik to date the best Slovenian Paralympic athlete
Paralympic Games in PyeongChang have ended. Young skier, the only Slovenian representative and Paralympic debutant Jernej Slivnik ranked 12th in the slalom. This is also the highest ranking of Slovenian Paralympic athletes to date.
Slivnik competed twice. In his first competition appearance he ended up disqualified in the giant slalom. Afterwards, he ranked 12th among 33 competitors in the slalom. This is also the best Slovenian slalom score after the 15th place of Srečko Kos at the Olympics in Nagano in 1998.
After the race, hardly 17-year-old Jernej Slivnik said: “It was great, although I did not have such a feeling of strength in the morning. I made a slight mistake in the first race, but later on everything run smoothly. I did not expect such ranking, and so I am all the more happy.”
His coach Roman Podlipnik is also very satisfied: “Congratulations to Jernej, especially since he resigned in the giant slalom and therefore had a bit more stage fright later on.”
President of the Sports Federation for the Disabled of Slovenia – Paralympic Committee Damijan Lazar said about Jernej: “Jernej has proved to be very promising; he has made a great progress in the recent period.”
