Slovenia House presents Slovenia as a tourist destination
Special attention at the Slovenia House in Pyeongchang is also paid to the presentation of Slovenia's tourism products and services that are offered to Korean tour operators and tourist agents.
The Slovenian Tourist Board (STB), in cooperation with the Croatian National Tourist Board, organised a presentation and tourist workshop between the Korean tour operators and agents on one side, and the Slovenian and Croatian tourism providers on the other.
The following companies from Slovenia attended the event: Union Hoteli, Palma, Sava Turizem, Big Berry, Promet T&T, Terme Olimia, Turizem Ljubljana, Kompas and MICEurope. Representatives of the Korean corporate sector also tasted Slovenian culinary delights.
In addition to presenting an opportunity to strengthen Slovenia's relations with the host country, the Olympic games also serve as an excellent opportunity to strengthen Slovenia's reputation and its national brand ‘I feel Slovenia’ worldwide. The Slovenia House's Olympic Slogan is ‘I feel Slovenia House’.
STB already active in South Korea in previous years
STB carried out a series of activities in South Korea through which, with the cooperation of Slovenian tourism sector, it addressed business circles, in particular tourist agencies, tour operators and the Korean media. Slovenia made its first appearance in South Korea in 2013 at the KOTFA travel fair. A workshop was also organised for that event for Korean agents and tour operators in Seoul. Since then STB has carried out continuous marketing and promotional activities on this market.
The production of the Korean romantic TV drama ‘Dear my friend’ in 2016 and TV drama ‘Black Night’ in 2017, both filmed in Slovenia, also contributed immensely to the recognition of Slovenia on the Korean market. This increased the interest of Korea's general public in Slovenia as an attractive European tourist destination. By presenting Slovenia as an attractive tourist destination during the Olympic games STB strives to further increase the attention of the Korean public given to Slovenia as an attractive, green, active and healthy five-star tourist destination.
Positive trends related to tourists from South Korea
Constant positive trends attached to tourists from South Korea have been recorded with respect to arrivals and overnight stays in Slovenia. Roughly 150,000 tourists from South Korea visited Slovenia last year, ranking Slovenia fifth in arrivals among foreign market destinations. Tourists from South Korea accounted for 161,000 overnight stays in Slovenia last year. The South Korean market has great potential and the possibility of further growth for Slovenia tourism.
Major sporting events, such as the Olympic games, are gaining significance even outside the sporting events themselves, in particular when establishing business contacts and presenting our business environment to the participating countries. The Olympic games in South Korea therefore provide an opportunity and possibility to establish new and reinforce already established business cooperation between Slovenia and South Korea, even in terms of tourism.
